Short answer

I am an n8n automation expert and AI agent developer. I build workflows that move data between your tools, AI assistants that answer from your own documents, and integrations with CRMs and APIs. I am lead developer of ALI, an AI assistant for UK crypto tax that quotes and links the exact HMRC source for each answer.

What you get

How I work

  1. Map

We list the repetitive tasks, the tools involved and where a human must stay in the loop.

  2. Build

I build each workflow or agent against test data before it touches live systems.

  3. Test

I run real cases through it, including bad inputs, and add error handling and alerts.

  4. Hand over

I switch it on, monitor early runs and document what each workflow does.

I am an n8n automation expert and AI agent developer. I build the workflows and assistants that take repetitive work off your team: copying data between tools, chasing follow-ups, drafting routine replies, summarising documents. I keep a human in the loop wherever a mistake would be costly.

Who this is for

  • Small businesses drowning in admin, where the same data is typed into three systems.
  • Teams that receive lots of enquiries and want them sorted, logged and answered faster.
  • Professional services firms that want an assistant to search their own documents and cite sources.
  • Businesses with tools that do not integrate, where someone exports a CSV every morning.
  • Agencies looking for an AI agent developer to build client automations.

What you get

  • n8n workflows. Workflow automation connecting forms, email, CRMs, spreadsheets, payment tools and anything with an API.
  • AI agents. Built on LLM APIs to draft, summarise, classify and route, with clear limits on what they can do alone.
  • Retrieval-based assistants. Your documents indexed with embeddings, so answers come with a quote and a link to the source.
  • API integrations. Custom connections where no ready-made node exists.
  • Browser automation. Playwright scripts for tasks in systems that have no API.
  • Monitoring. Error branches, logs and alerts, so a failed run is noticed straight away.

How I work

I start by mapping the process as it really happens, not as the handbook describes it. For each step we decide: automate fully, automate with human review, or leave manual.

I build against test data first. Then I run real cases through it, including the awkward ones: missing fields, duplicate records, odd formatting. Every workflow gets error handling, because business process automation that fails silently is worse than no automation.

At handover you get a plain description of each workflow: what triggers it, what it does and who to call if it stops.

What can you automate in a small business?

Some examples of what a small business might automate:

  • New website enquiry: create a CRM lead, send an acknowledgement email, alert the team in chat.
  • Incoming invoices: extract key fields, file the PDF, add a row to the accounts sheet.
  • Support inbox: classify messages, draft replies for common questions, flag urgent ones.
  • Weekly reporting: pull figures from several tools into one summary.

These are illustrations, not case studies. I cover more in n8n automation for small businesses.

Why hire me

  • I lead a live AI assistant. ALI answers UK crypto tax questions grounded in HMRC guidance, using embeddings built from HMRC material. Each law answer quotes the relevant section and links the exact HMRC manual page. It reads uploaded PDFs, summarises a case and drafts replies, and an accountant verifies the answer.
  • I build the systems automations plug into. The RENXW multi-tenant CRM includes API integrations and automation hooks, with permissions enforced in the database.
  • Broad skills. LLM APIs, embeddings and retrieval, n8n, Playwright, API integrations and CRM systems, plus the web development around them. See custom web app development.

When should you not automate?

Not every task is worth it. I will tell you to leave a process manual when:

  • It happens rarely. A monthly task that takes ten minutes rarely pays back the build.
  • The rules keep changing. Automating a process that is still being worked out locks in today's confusion.
  • A wrong answer is costly and hard to spot. Here I add human review, or keep it manual.
  • The data is messy at the source. Fixing the input usually comes before automating it.

Saying no to the wrong automation keeps the right ones trustworthy.

Pricing and timelines

I quote per project. What drives cost and time:

  • Number of workflows and steps. A single three-step flow is quick; a chain of linked processes is not.
  • Quality of existing APIs. Well-documented APIs are faster to connect than systems that need browser automation.
  • AI involvement. Retrieval assistants need document preparation, testing and evaluation of answers.
  • Review requirements. Workflows that need human approval steps take more design.
  • Hosting. Self-hosting n8n means setting up and securing a server.

Questions people ask

What does an n8n automation expert do?

An n8n automation expert designs workflows that connect your tools and run tasks automatically: a form submission creates a CRM record, sends an email and posts a team alert, for example. I also add error handling and logging so you know when something fails instead of discovering it weeks later.

Why n8n instead of Zapier or Make?

n8n can be self-hosted, handles complex branching well and lets you drop into code when a visual node is not enough. That suits businesses that want control over their data and costs. For very simple two-step automations, a hosted tool may be fine, and I will say so.

What is an AI agent and does my business need one?

An AI agent is software that uses a language model to take steps: read a message, look something up, draft a reply, route it. It helps when a task involves reading and writing text at volume. It is not needed for fixed rules a normal workflow can handle.

Can an AI assistant answer from my own documents?

Yes. That is called retrieval. Your documents are split and indexed with embeddings, the assistant retrieves the relevant parts for each question and answers with a quote and a link. ALI, which I lead, works this way with HMRC guidance, and an accountant verifies the answer.

Are you an AI automation agency?

I am an independent engineer, not a large agency, so you work with the person building the system. I am also co-founder and technical lead of RENXW, an agency, which means I can bring in extra capacity on larger projects when it is needed.
